The opera ‘Tamar da Timna’, commissioned by the Assisi Music Festival to Francesco Santelli, its composer in residence, is an interpretation of the biblical story of Tamar, Judah’s daughter-in-law, in Genesis 38. Her story is a fascinating and a controversial one, which is brought to life through this dramatic musical interpretation. The composer exposes audiences to new insights into the heart and behavior of the woman that many have condemned but whose life and story has been bound to an immortal destiny.
